Chanel Has an Elevator to the Moon - The Cut Posted: 15 Jan 2020 12:00 AM PST Photo: Courtesy of Chanel The brand that once launched a rocket ship at a runway show is bringing us to outer space once again in a new short film for Chanel Fine Jewelry. This time, though, our ride is an elevator. In Over the Moon, a woman walks into an elevator and presses a mysterious button labeled "moon." As the ride ascends, three more people enter. Naturally, they're all taking a luxury journey straight to that big white floating space rock while wearing the latest Chanel jewelry. There's a steel chain watch interlaced with pastel-pink leather, plus various floral necklaces, rings, and earrings in silver and rose gold set with diamonds. It's all from the brand's newest crop of watches and fine jewelry from the Camélia collection. If our crew dies from lack of oxygen, at least they're wearing Chanel. But what's more unrealistic: an elevator that takes you to space, or actually talking to people in the elevator with you? Still, this video is very relatable. If you saw a button in an elevator that claimed to go to the moon, wouldn't you press it? (Unless you're British, in which case you might find it boring.) The Major Jewelry Trends of Fall 2020 - Vogue.com Posted: 13 Mar 2020 12:00 AM PDT One of the easiest ways to spark some joy in your wardrobe—which in these work-from-home days is probably pretty casual—is with jewelry. It takes only two seconds to slip on a bracelet or attach some pendant earrings, et voilà, you are transformed. For some seasons now, we've been charting the evolution of built-ins, i.e. clothes designed to incorporate jewelry elements. That movement crescendoed this season with the clothes-as-jewelry trend, but it didn't take away from the desirability of the baubles on offer. In fact, the spectrum of the jewelry market seems to have broadened. With designers finding inspiration in disparate sources—punks and debs, surrealism and mid-century design—there's something for everyone. Still, it's not a free-for-all; we've mined the cache and organized it into eight major veins. Dig in! Surreal AppealThe season's most off-kilter pieces reflect not just the upside-down state of the world, but also the work of the legendary Salvador Dalí. Protective MeasuresIn times of trouble, charms can assume the power of amulets. Hearts, crosses, and rosary beads seemed designed to counter the many threats facing us in 2020. Vampires take note: At Vivenne Westwood, Andreas Kronthaler sent one of his models out wearing a necklace of garlic. Hold SwayPendant pieces aren't new, but this season they looked especially fresh worn with the fringe we saw on so many runways. Silver StreakMixing metals has become de rigueur. Still, silver stands out, especially when it's found in gleamingly modern and bold statement pieces that stand their ground against nostalgia-driven designs. Sea ChangeThe popularity of pearls shows no sign of abating. Revived at Chanel, they also washed up at the anti-establishment Koché, suggesting that these gems can roll two ways: lady and vamp. Pins and NeedlesLike pearls, brooches are throwback baubles that were given a rethink for fall. At Miu Miu heirloom-style gems were applied to barely-there bra tops, while the pins at Chloé had a more populist spirit. Alessandro Dell'Acqua stuck with the DIY aesthetic at No. 21 where safety pins were applied like embroidery. Strap HappyTimothée Chalamet might want to watch his back; the harness look he popularized got embellished for fall. Chain links replaced leather, while elsewhere pearls and rhinestones elevated these sturdy accessories. Head FirstThe top down approach to adornment continues to be prevalent, with tiaras and headbands still trending. Hair jewels (seen at Giambattista Valli, Miu Miu, and Tom Ford) were a new and plausible way to add interest to your look, while rhinestone-framed faces were elegantly extra. |
